Human Management of AI Teams

AI Teams are managed work systems, not unmanaged collections of autonomous agents.

Humans remain responsible for goals, organizational authority, subject matter judgment, permissions, consequential approvals, and the standards applied to the work.

The human manager

A human manager does not need to perform every task the Digital Employees perform. The manager operates at the workforce level.

Human managers can:

  • assign goals and priorities
  • direct work
  • provide organizational context
  • contribute subject matter expertise
  • resolve ambiguity
  • approve gated actions
  • review exceptions and blocked work
  • evaluate outputs
  • improve instructions, skills, and workflows
  • decide when work should escalate
  • manage access and operating boundaries

This is closer to managing a team than repeatedly prompting a chatbot.

Subject matter experts

Subject matter experts contribute knowledge and judgment at the points where the AI Team cannot or should not decide alone.

Their expertise can be captured in approved instructions, source materials, skills, review criteria, and workflow gates without requiring the SME to manually perform every repeatable step.

THINK Strategist

A customer can manage the AI Team with its own trained personnel or use a trained THINK Strategist from Compound Leverage or a delivery partner.

A THINK Strategist can support the customer in configuring the workforce, translating business requirements into AI Team workflows, establishing management practices, evaluating performance, and improving the deployment.

The THINK Strategist is a human operating role. It is distinct from the Digital Employees performing the underlying jobs.

Management without unnecessary intervention

The objective is not to place a human inside every task. It is to put human judgment at the points where organizational authority, risk, ambiguity, or expertise requires it.

Orchestration provides the mechanism for surfacing those points instead of requiring a person to continuously watch every execution.
