Digital Employees

A Digital Employee is a defined AI job within an AI Team.

It is a stable organizational abstraction that can remain consistent even as models, interfaces, tools, and execution technologies change.

What a Digital Employee defines

A Digital Employee can define:

  • name and human-facing persona
  • job and mission
  • responsibilities
  • authority and boundaries
  • escalation conditions
  • expected inputs and outputs
  • available skills

The persona should remain lightweight. Detailed methodologies belong in skills. Customer knowledge and access rules belong in the Customer AI Control Plane. Tool implementation belongs in the execution and integration layers.

Persona versus capability

A persona makes a Digital Employee understandable to the humans managing the team. It should answer questions such as: What job does this employee own? What is it responsible for? When should it escalate?

The persona should not become a container for every procedure, reference document, tool instruction, or piece of enterprise knowledge. Loading those elements only when required keeps the job definition stable and the execution context smaller.

Logical separation

Digital Employees remain logically separate even when a single model executes multiple jobs.

That separation provides:

  • clear ownership
  • separation of duties
  • job-specific evaluation
  • workflow accountability
  • permission boundaries
  • understandable human management

A more capable model can therefore reduce execution overhead without eliminating the organizational value of distinct Digital Employees.

Next: Skills define how a Digital Employee performs specialized work.
